Fundraising Events
In addition to an annual fundraising campaign by mail, the Henderson County Young Leaders Program, in partnership with the Henderson County summer camp community hosts two annual fundraising events in October, the Future Legends of BBQ competition and the Barbeque Ball, both benefiting the HCYLP and underwritten by generous sponsors.
Future Legends of BBQ
The Future Legends of BBQ competition began in 2009 at beautiful Camp Greystone in Tuxedo, NC. This year, the event is moving to Camp Mondamin. The event consists of teams of children (with a supervising adult) cooking ribs, other choices of meats, sides and sauces in competition for awards in all categories and Grand Champion Future Legend of BBQ. The event is licensed by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) and judged by KCBS-licensed judges according to KCBS rules. Other activities throughout the day include guest appearances and demonstrations by BBQ industry celebrities, live music, inflatables for the kids, concessions, face-painting, and more!

Teams: $100. General Admission 10AM-4:30PM: $5.00 Kids free!
Barbecue Ball
The Barbecue Ball, started in 2008 and originally held at Camp Greystone, moved to Camp Mondamin in 2011. The Barbecue Ball is a family-oriented evening of great food from Hubba Hubba Smokehouse in Flat Rock, NC , live music and square-dancing, a silent auction featuring exciting outdoor experiences, games and activities for the kids, and s’mores!
